THE government’s Schools Minister will visit Haygrove School in Bridgwater this week following a campaign by the constituency’s MP to address unsafe conditions at the premises.
Haygrove School, located on Durleigh Road in Bridgwater, was forced to close part of its site in August 2023 after being open for only three years, with lessons currently being carried out in Portakabins within the school grounds.
Speaking ahead of the visit, MP Ashley Fox said: “I will be making it clear to the minister that Haygrove School urgently needs a safe and modern building on a new site. I invited him to Haygrove so he could see for himself that rebuilding the school on the existing site would make life intolerable for pupils and staff.”
“The current situation is untenable and it’s time for a decision. I have been on this case since elected, pushing for a solution that works for the pupils, staff, and families of Haygrove School. I very much hope that this visit results in meaningful progress.”
The visit follows a recent meeting between Ashley Fox MP and Schools Minister, Stephen Morgan, where Ashley prioritised Haygrove School as a beneficiary of the Department for Education’s rebuilding programme, and outlined the disruption caused by temporary portacabins on site.
